I've cut my pampas grass this morning and now have 5 black bin bags
full of shredded leaves.

Can I put them in the compost?

p.s. Can privet hedge clippings also be put into compost (shredded
first)?

Or even without shredding, but they will take longer.

It is worth sprinkling such woody material (including pampas) with
some general fertiliser and some earth, and making sure that it
is damp but not compacted, because it will be broken down by fungi
and not bacteria.
