willow & cherry blossom
The message
from "anon." contains these words: Thanks to everyone who has contributed. All advice noted & will proceed as instructed, hopefully with a nice willow next winter. Sue. anon. wrote in message ... Hello, I've got a 6 branches/stems of willow sitting in water indoors & they've taken root. Q1. Can i now plant these in the garden? Where should i plant them, against a wall in a sunny spot or against a wall in a partially shaded area? (i've only got a small garden) Sorry to be discouraging but I've just been reading 'Willows, the Genus Salix' by Christopher Newsholme. He reckons that willows which root in water very rarely transfer successfully. If they survive the trauma of adapting to a new medium at all, they seldom thrive. Others in the group might, of course, have different experience. If you can, though, it's might be more reliable to start now with fresh cuttings in a sandy mixture in a pot. They root and grow very quickly. Janet G |
