trachelospermum jasminoides
I have one of these in a pot (freebee from a garden show last autumn!)
It's in the GH ATM but I was wondering just how much frost it will take?? Any experiences with one in the ground outside? Jenny |

Jenny I have had one in a bucket sized pot outside this winter and it is making new growth. It is in a sheltered position and in East Yorks.Lovely fragrance. It has been a mild winter-I didn't wrap up a musa basjoo-banana-and it is making new growth. |

Flora Hi Jenny down here any bits above the wall are always burnt off and die, I often see it recommended for shade but my experience is that it flowers best with at least half a days sunshine, Trachelospermum asiaticum is much hardier and never touched by the weather but to suggest jasminoides is hardy is stretching a point in my view! -- Charlie, gardening in Cornwall. http://www.roselandhouse.co.uk Holders of National Plant Collection of Clematis viticella (cvs) |

But Bean describes it as needing wall protection, and it certainly wouldn't have taken the winters here exposed to the wind up to a decade ago. Regards, Nick Maclaren. |

Maybe your definition of hardy is different from mine. A bad winter will certainly burn off leaves, but the plants quickly recover in spring. Flora |

By the sounds of it, I shall be on the lookout for a bigger pot then :~) Jenny |
