Default New kind anti-slug invention

This is an idea I had that anyone is welcome to patent: Long plastic strips
with insert shoots every few inches to push it into the ground. The strip
could be sold in rolls and would be possibly five inches high. Basically the
strip begins to arch outwards and back-flips backwards and downwards it is
coated from the drop point with Teflon so that the slug climbs up, backwards
and then falls off back to the ground. Place these strips around beds or
plants as you will, to keep out slugs.
Hope someone with a garden centre might think of trying the idea!

Have you tried it out Mira ?
Did it work ?

I reckon slugs can climb anything :~(
They also go across plants, so you'd need everything planted in its
own ring with no overlap of leaves from the next plant........
I think this is were a lot of the 'ground' solutions fall down.

There actually is such a slug barrier made from galvanized metal. The
edge folds back twice; sort of like a numeral "4" open at the bottom,
ISTR. It does keep slugs from going over it. It's sold in sections of
several feet, which one bolts together, and with corner connectors,
and you are to fence off an entire bed.

It's expensive, and slugs can also burrow under it, so you need
pellets or something else inside it...

I can't remember which tv gardening progs it was, but one of the lady
presenters suggested, trimming the top 5 inches off old plastic flower pot
rims, surround plant and insert approx 3 inches into soil.
Apply petroleum jelly to the exposed 2 inches.
It has been very successful for the last 2 seasons. The jelly wil last
approx 3 months. For the first time ever, I had no Hosta damage.

Regards ........... Paul

Main thing is to find a humane solution, birds can feed on the slugs rather
than us killing them.. My idea being basically plastic, would be cheap and
could be used in large quantities to protect a greater area, it would be
pressed in such a way that you could clip it together at anypoint.

Unfortunately, now you have put this idea into the public domain, it can't
be patented.

Unfortunatly as you've now snipped it no-one will know what you are talking
about. patenting is'int the main issue anyway.

:-) It doesn't work that way....

I'm going to try the coffee method of keeping slugs at bay this year ... am
collecting my coffee grounds to put around the plants. By spring, I should
have lots of spent coffee to use.

Best,

trouble is it doesnt kill them and you do need to eradicate the
buggers
the beer traps say that they kill off the entire lot from your garden

Someone told me the other day that they keep slugs at bay by putting
WD40 round the top of the pot.

Place a copper penny under each pot and in about a month you will have no
slugs or snails.

i think that gettingtubs(we in flora in them, in the uk, not sure bout hte
US) put kitchen anything in to the tub , orange peels potato skins etc. and
then cut a hole big enough for slugs and snails in the side of the tubat
what is normally the top, but will end up at the bottom, put the tub out in
the garden, hole positioned for maximum slug access, with the kitchen waste
inside(we collect the kitchen stuff any way, and compost it, i reckon you
could compost the kitchen waste after wards, ) check evry night of
something, and then, spade foot salt, whatever you prefer
