I just wondered what these things
were. Nothing unusual. They are seed ------------------------------------------ The Bristol, UK branch of The Residents Appreciation Society. http://english.aljazeera.net |

I have just looked at the potatoes on my allotment and they seem to be
growing tomatoes! Most of the plants have tomato looking "berries" on the tops of the plants. They are definately potatoes though as I ate some last night. I had a sneaky look at some of the other plot holders potatoes and they don't have these "berries" on them. As you can probably gather I am not an experienced potatoe grower, but I just wondered what these things were. Kelly |

Potato and tomato are in the same family (along with aubergine and deadly nightshade). Tomato is one of the plants of the family whose fruits are edible - the fruits of the potato, along with the rest of the plant except the tubers, are poisonous. -- Kay "Do not insult the crocodile until you have crossed the river" So they're seeds then! I planted my potatoes before everyone else which is probably the reason why my plants have produced the seeds now. I must say I am a bit disappointed that I haven't grown some weird hybrid though! Yes, they are POISONOUS Here is the reason for removing potato flowers as they develop. The plant puts its strength into producing seed, at the expense of tubers. Removing the flowers allows the potato tubers to go on growing. Sorry, flogging this horse again but I believe the logic of the argument. Pam in Bristol |
