Sea Cucumber?

A sea cucumber is an animal (echinoderm).

It might be a karela - or bitter melon.

You hit the jackpot: its both a fruit and a vegetable!!

Its a fruit in the botanical sense and a vegetable in the culinary sense.

Fun for all you gherkin jerkers out there, its a "karela", a.k.a. "bitter
melon".
