This sounds like Rosa spinossissima pteracantha (pteracantha means winged thorn - the thorns are huge and translucent red on new stems) Fairly widely available from nurseries as oposed to garden centres. Scotts of Merriott and David Austin both sell it. -- Kay Easton Edward's earthworm page: http://www.scarboro.demon.co.uk/edward/index.htm |

It is sold by Peter Beales (www.classicroses.co.uk). Their description is: "Similar to 'pteracantha', but with more and brighter red thorns and less vigour. Yellow flowers. 6'x4' In their 2003 catalogue it cost £9.95. Spider |
