Thank you for your advice John every useful.

I think everything went off course when someone gave his opinion(ated) on
decking v. alternative.
After many messages I still could not get a reply to my query and had to
blow the whistle.

Your advice has been supported by subsequent investigation at various timber
merchants whom you would think would try to promote the more expensive
product i.e. hardwood.

When I ask a question on the Rugby Newsgroup I never get a discussion on a
Rugby v. Soccer viewpoint but remain on the issue itself.
