Have My Bees Gone?
"TheChief" wrote in message ... Hi all I posted a while ago over a bees nest and potential damage and was reassured that they wouldn't be a problem. I am now looking to get my fascias and soffits uPVC'd so work will be going on at the nest site. I have been watching out for activity and haven't seen any for weeks. So the question is - have the bees gone, or are they dormant and likely to get excited at the potential disruption? Knowing the bees have been in residence I do feel that I need to warn the appointed plastic men. Bees do not go 'dormant' at this time of year, if there is no activity then the colony is dead. This can be due to many reasons but the main suspects would be varroa mite or colony collapse disorder. Your main problem might not be the bees but any honey that they have left behind. Phil (beekeeper) Thanks Chris and Philgurr Should have mentioned that these are/were bumble bees, so won't be expecting honey. Rather relieved to see them leave though so they won't interrupt planned works. Phil |
