A new Leek pest?
Last year was when we first noticed it on a few plants but this year it's
much worse affecting the whole crop and those of fellow allotment holders on our site. The white flesh of the leek , the bit you eat, has reddy coloured streaks running right down inside it to the base, on closer inspection something has tunnelled down the white flesh eating it as it goes and leaving this reddy coloured stain. Removing all the damaged white leaves means you end up with a tiny central section to eat. This is not Leek Moth as we have had that pest for many years here, this is something new and much more damaging. I have asked the RHS Wisley for advice on what this is and control (some hope!). -- Regards Bob Hobden Posting to this Newsgroup from the W.of London. UK |
