Parkers
I commented recently on plants in the post from Parkers, some
acceptable some not, which were in the post over the long Easter weekend, when it was comparatively HOT. I complained to them about dephinium plugs in particular, which were vritually dead on arrival. They told me the plants are sent out "dormant". CAn you have a dormant plug plant? I demanded a refund or replacement, The latter I was promised. A box arrived at the end of last week with plugs even worse than the first lot, all shaken about, and only 2 of 6 showing any signs of growth. I have now demanded a refund. It cannot be good for business to send out such poor quality things! I shall certainly never order plants from them again. Bulbs I have not had a problem with. |

I must say I have had the opposite experience. I order from them several times a year, the plants are always fine. I had three courgettes and three cucumber plants arrive recently, admittedly just before the break. They are fine, growing on nicely in my garage. |

I ask because most large organisations send out their produce by carrier. They will chose the cheapest carrier (and ignore the small print in their contract) because once in the carrier's hands they consider that their responsibility ends. Here in the north of Scotland, plants can often take THREE weeks to be delivered by carrier, so we generally deal only with those firms that despatch plants by Royal Mail - these are often smaller family businesses. Phil 40 miles N. of Inverness Pam, I've found that if you can sent a picture or two of the plants as they were after unpacking then it often works wonders. |

I live in North Staffordshire, just North of Stone. The carrier is a very pleasant young man, from the paper work I guess he is based in Crewe. |

I have now been promised a refund on the non-existant delphiniums. Incidentally I ordered plug plants of cosmos from both Parkers and Dobies. Yes I know cosmos are easy from seed and I have several packets of seed and some saved (!) but having no greenhouse, my window ledges get cluttered and the last few years I put cosmos seedlings out too soon and they got eaten by slugs. This year the Parkers ones came just after Easter, on their own and were very acceptable and are doing well. The Dobiies ones arrived today and are also good quality. |
