Stroll round the Eden Project
Just come across a link at the JungleSeeds website which points to using
Google StreetView to stroll round the Eden Project. You'll need a bit of patience, but it is an interesting idea for those who can't get there. It's a very long address: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&so...9,-4.744247&pa Or you can use this: http://bit.ly/1zWFvG8 -- Jeff |

It seems that I was using Google Earth, despite getting there by downloading Google Earth Pro. I noticed that some photos of France and UK had been updated. In NL they are all at least 4 years old. At least some of the photos are different to those I saw when I used Google Maps Street view a week ago. I haven't bothered with 'earth' in a while, it was always a little hit or miss on linux, and I only run 64 bits now which seems to make it even harder (shouldn't be, mind you). Street view in Paris is dated Sept 2014, not too bad. In Normandy it doesn't make it down our street at all, the nearest is only dated 2010, missing a house on the corner that has been built since! -- Gardening in Lower Normandy |

Stroll round the Eden Project

I run 32 bit Win7. Linux is much, much faster... I stopped using G Earth because it was so slow, however with the latest version once the long start up is over it is very fast. I haven't tried it, but apparently GE is controllable with a joystick. So I checked and apparently I did install google earth at some point on this computer. It sort of works, I was able to "fly" to Normandy, but if I type an address in the box I get an illegal request error. Anyway I was able to see that the imagery is from 2010, same as maps. It booted very quickly, certainly under a second. But this is a 3.7 ghz Ivy Bridge i7 with operating system and most executables on SSD, so it better be fast! -- Gardening in Lower Normandy |
