Last years crop was fine. This year the plants have trebled in size, masses
of leaf growth but very little fruit

Which has just reminded me, I've not been to pick since Sunday!!
Daniel had a little* accident at school, and I'm knackered (which is
a little bit mean of me, cos Nick is doing most of the childcare this
week)

Strangely, strawberry plants are now in the shops for cropping 'in time
for Wimbledon'.

Which will be good going - they'll have to be quick!

I did note the ones in Homebase had a lot of runners in the £7 hanging
baskets - and I wondered if that could be the start of a strawberry patch.

Or is it better to buy small rooted plants in bulk?

Cheers

Why aren't yours a few weeks late like everything else this year? Mine are late this year, like everything else.

My ones from runners planted out this april from last years, and have
produced huge strawberries. And are still producing. I feed them with
tomato feed.My main ones are in the south facing border. 50 or 60 small
ones ready every day. We give them away when we can. Some people will not
accept a friendly gift.

My earlies are cropping late and my lates are cropping early. Well,
they're about to! It looks like I'll have a glut for the Wimbledon
finals.

Reading an item in a trade paper they are saying that with the
strawberries cropping about 3 1/2 weeks late this year the fruit are
larger and sweeter.

Got no jars.
Did actually have them hulled in a pan last night before I realised
this so now that lot is in the freezer too. Time to put the other
freezer on I think.
