I got some today and they look dead. should i chuck them out.

I presume you mean the plants, they do look dead at this time of year, plant
them straight away.

What you buy at this time of year are dormant canes so they will look
mostly dead. Plant them out soon and they'll start growing in the
spring.

If you can't plant them immediately then cover their roots with some
earth, (heel them in), until you do have time. (That's what I've had to
do.)

Just dig a shallow trench where you want them and put the root end in the
trench and cover with soil. they spread by runners under the soil so you
will soon have plenty more.

Next spring they will grow new green canes from the ground up, when they
fruit depends on whether you have bought summer or autumn fruiting canes.
