I was read my dads book which was written by Omar Sharif.
The cliche poker face should read bridge face for obvious reasons, and to
send signals with your bidding to your prospective partner. Reading what is
in your hand and responses is THE biggest skill to learn. And cannot be
learned from books, just playing and playing, losing and losing, then
winning a few tricks, then a few more. It is not easy and I am not an
expert, just novice-improver.
Oh, and don't be lead on by someone who you think has a good hand but wants
you to over-bid, or lure you. You will most likely find that the player
knows who the partner is.

Sort of 'on-topic' when it was really wet one weekend and I couldn't
garden i went up two days running to the Andrew Robson bridge school in
London and did his beginners in a weekend course. Very demanding but
that and learning Latin plant names will, i hope stave off dementia for
a few more weeks.............

Good man! One of my girls is dyslexic, and she's just submitted her
Ph.D. dissertation in one of the top departments for her subject. I'm
not dyslexic, but she's got a lot more drive than I've ever had.

If dyslexia is noticed early on and properly dealt with, there is no
reason at all it should be any sort of problem in future. However
anyone who is still having problems in adult life, suggests it wasnt
noticed in childhood, and will be very much more difficult to deal
with.

The general perception of dyslexia is similar to that held by Janet,
but ignorance and intolerance of anyone or anything that might differ
from the accepted norm, is so common nowadays its not really worthy of
mention.

Very well done that girl. She has probably had to work harder than others
with/on her dyslexia than on the dissertation its self. Dyslexic people
have to have that bit of extra drive to keep up with the non dyslexic
world.
I know that when I was an apprentice, and thank goodness for a good boss, I
struggled badly with the theory at Tech.Col. and had to be put back a year
despite burning the midnight oil. Shameful and embarassing at the time.
Computers were not heard of then so no script readers or spell checkers, no
talking books. Just a book set to try and make sense of. That was just for
an ONC, so getting a Ph.D even with a bit of technology is astounding.
