David @ the wet end of swansea bay Are they sold as 'ornamental' trees, or is the fruit supposed to be safe to eat? I know someone who does pesticide residue testing who was asked to test a bay tree for a major UK retailer. The residues were such that it would be years before it would be safe* to use the leaves in cooking. * 'safe' as in within statutory limits. |

Do you know by chance what chemicals the residues were? Just interested. -E |

We ate the lemons off our Aldi tree we got a couple of years ago. Really good, too, and at the time the lemons were worth nearly as much as the tree! So not £15, IIRC :-) -- No plan survives contact with the enemy. [Not even bunny] Helmuth von Moltke the Elder (\__/) (='.'=) (")_(") |

They are sold as ornamental, with a warning not to eat the fruit. I know, I bought one at a reduced price of £10; it's in great nick and looks good in the conservatory. |
