Default Caterpillars!

tiny black ones ... (Not the best pic but on my mobile)
They're on netteles and in a cobweby style arrangement!
Will try to get a better photo tomorrow with a real camera!

Sounds like the Small Tortoiseshell (Aglais urticae), they lay their
eggs on nettles, the last 4 years I have left clumps of nettles when I
have seen the catapillars on them, but within a few days the birds
have cleared them, this year if we get any I will net them to keep the
birds off.

Or peacock. Black with bits sticking out. Can't see the pic - even when I log in to facebook, it says "content not available"

(don't know why I couldn't see the share with public link the other

Wow!

Black caterpillars on nettle come down to peacock, small tortoisehell and red admiral. Both the small tortoiseshell and the peacock live together in a communal web until their final moult.

Thanks for the pic - that's taught me something new.
