I've got wind, and sucking Rennies doesn't help! LOL
My garden is being battered and my small tomatoes, etc are suffering. One squash plant which was out has had it, but luckily I have 2 others inside. I was going to plant some things out on the allotment tomorrow, but I think I'll wait a few days. "They" say it's going to be worse up north so good luck to those of you who get it worse than here. To say the wind is "fresh" here in Leics today would be an understatement, although it's been fairly windy for a couple of weeks actually. No damage up to now, except a few twigs blown off my elderly fruit trees which will come in useful as kindling for my woodburner later in the year. It's an ill wind etc sorry, I'll get my coat.. You know when it's windy when: http://www.howhill.com/weather/view....2005&m=04&d=28 Christmas Eve 1999 had the roof fly off and land on the wall the other side of the road that is behind the wall that the shed is leaning against in the above image. The wind then was gusting to the mid 60's mph with sustained 50 mph... The charts look like it might get a bit breezy later on tommorow. -- Cheers Dave. |

I almost abandoned my weekend plan to plant out my beans yesterday, but it turned out all the beans that have so far germinated are all dwarves anyhow, so I went ahead. Really must put some runner beans in tonight! |

It's still bowing quite well here but I haven't checked the anonometer - assuming it's working properly. Just about got to F9 (upper 40's mph sustained) an hour or so ago, eased a bit now only an energetic F7 (mid 30's mph sustained). A few gusts above 50 mph. I do hate it when it keeps on blowing like this! We get fed up with the noise when it stays above F7 for more than 24hrs. Anything less than F5 (20 mph sustained) doesn't make any noise and we don't consider F5 "windy", though vistors will nearly always comment. -- Cheers Dave. |

I don't use one of those, I just check the angle of the branches on the weeping silver birch on the green across the road. Today they are achieving 90 degrees quite frequently. -- Kathy |

The cats watch them avidly from the safety of the kitchen. They are young and haven't got the courage to try them yet :-} -- Kathy |

There are a pair of stupid looking fat birds hanging around in the garden and I'm wondering if they're waiting for my cherished first gooseberry crop to ripen. I'll be heartbroken if they all get stolen. I've never noticed them doing, but they are probably more attractde to my currants on the allotment, so the gooseberries aren't as tempting. Especially witht he spines. Daniel picked a gooseberry at the weekend and was most put out when I told him it wouldn't be ready yet. He also found our first ripe redcurrant! |
