I normally buy seed online and have used several companies over the years.
One order tends to lead to repeated mailings, brochures and spam. A simple email tends to stop these - but not with Thompson & Morgan. They did stop but without a further purchase have started again with frequent spam emails every few days and are still at it despite several emails asking them to stop. Has anyone else had this problem? or have any ideas for stopping them? They already go to my junk folder, but I do check it regularly and am angry at the wasted bandwidth and their stupidity. (Stupid because I'll likely never buy from them again) Suttons Seeds seem to do well in reviews and, in contrast to Thompson&Morgan, have honoured an email requesting they stop - so they get my business. |

The chances are you have an online account with T&M. You could try creating a (free) Hotmail account or similar. Then go to T&Ms website and click the My Account link right at the top of the page. Login using your existing email address and password (if you can't remember, then there should be a reset or remind link). Once in, change your email address to the hotmail one, which of course, you will never download to your computer will you. When ordering on line, it's a good idea to create a temporary mail account with the likes of Hotmail or Yahoo and use that for the order process. Then when the spam starts you simply discard the email address. |

Hi, If you use Outlook Express or Windows Live Mail 09, you can set up an email 'rule' that says something like... If email from line contains 'Thompson & Morgan', do not download from server and delete message. Hope that helps Andy |

T&M never have an "unsubscribe" link on their e-mails which more responsible companies do. That is not true. Whether the unsubscribe link works or not is another matter, but all the T&M emails I have have unsubscribe links on them. |

Well, you're lucky because mine haven't, because I have specially looked because I receive far too many of them! I have 8 T&M emails in my inbox, older ones have been deleted. Every one has an unsubscribe link. Right hand side, near the bottom. So some of yours don't work? I don't find their emails a problem, so I hadn't tried to unsubscribe. I just clicked it and got the message "Thank you, you are now unsubscribed." Simple. I am going to resubscribe now. |

I don't find their emails a problem, so I hadn't tried to unsubscribe. I just clicked it and got the message "Thank you, you are now unsubscribed." Simple. I am going to resubscribe now. Good for you. Hmmm! Occasionally I just whack my entire inbox into an archive folder rather than check it through and "zap the crap". A simple search shows up T&M emails going back to 2009. I've checked a few and every one has an unsubscribe link at the bottom right. And even in the 2009 ones, the link is to the same URL as in an email received today. I wonder if T&M are being nice to those who actually buy from them but are out to pester to the end those who don't. I suspect that Malcolm is prolly viewing T&M emails in plain text, in which case the word 'unsubscribe' is not viewable. Obviously this is a mistake on T&M's part rather than a deliberate ploy to prevent newsletter subscribers from unsubscribing. The link right at the bottom of T&M emails in plain text format is the unsubscribe one. Not so hard to work out as it contains the word 'optOut'. |
