Greenfly, Blackfly
In article , Adrian
Jones writes I had a terrible infestation of greenfly on my buddleia. I picked them off and also sprayed insecticidal soap, but then I got blackfly. I sprayed and picked again, and the greenfly returned. I sprayed again and they're back as thick as ever. Is there no way whatsoever to control these insects? They're doing awful damage to the new leaves on my buddleia and I'm afraid they'll soon infest everything in sight. You can kill them fairly easily, but you can't prevent new infestations. And anything that kills the greenfly is likely also to kill their predator, the ladybird larva. I stopped using all pesticides in my garden, and over the next five years I started seeing fewer pests as the predators began to get into balance. I now have more birdlife than ever before, attracted by the insects in the garden. Yes, I still have pests, including greenfly, but not to devastating effect. -- Kay Easton Edward's earthworm page: http://www.scarboro.demon.co.uk/edward/index.htm |
