Likewise. At a show last weekend we came across runner bean pickle,
which was delicious.

Still growing here too Mike, at the very north end of the Wirral just before
you et your feet wet in Liverpool Bay, but they are well battered after the
gales of the last few days. Must be nice to have a sheltered garden!

Mine still thriving. The only problem is this wind has blown them
sideways so I have to limbo dance down the garden path. Better than
being led up it though!

The dry spell, followed by a cold one, has halted may. They MAY
restart, but I am not betting on it.

I don't think blanching is needed (they DO go soggy)
I had a glut last year and again this year, so much as I gave them away.
I froze loads of them last year unblanched and they have carried me over
to this year 'till I could get this new crop.
I am keeping some frozen from last year to see if they will be ok for
longer periods......I will let you know how it turns out.

The last time I cooked the frozen ones was about July this year and I was
sooo impressed with them ie:firmness and taste considering the were
frozen about 12 months ago.

I just quickly washed the fresh ones and soaked them overnight in
heavilly salted water, cut them up and slung portions in freezer bags.

Did the same with my broad beans this year too(though taken out of the
pods)......lets see how it works.

Take care
