Yes.

But really, quite harmless.

When I was about thirteen I came on a 'situation' - two elderly women
wanting to progress along a pavement, with their way barred by a
hissing gander.

Rusty to the rescue!

I approached the gander, who turned his attention on me, so I
stuffed my fist into his beak and walked at him, and he backed into
his garden, and I closed the gate on him, to much elderly
adulation... --

Recalling how my 3 year old son almost disappeared into a pelican,
whilst feeding bits of fish to it on a stick, at a zoo in Oz. I
wouldn't recommend trying what you did on a pelican.

Good Heavens!!

The pelican was the star of the Oz children's film Storm Boy.

/innocent look

Did lots of people keep geese in their front gardens in Norfolk back in the
1800's?

/off innocent look

This were in Essex, between the Blackwater and Colne estuaries, and no,
this one was in the back garden, but as the garden ran parallel with the
road, the back gate(s) opened at an angle to it, more-or-less opposite
Digby's.

With all those clues, someone ought to know where I was...

Reminds me of my act of 'heroism" ;-)

After karate - 2 girls wanting to emerge from the changing room - their
way barred by a large centipede.

So I scooped it up in my hands, to much adulation, and carried it
towards the outside door.

And before you say 'girls!' in a sneering tone - their reaction was
nothing as compared to the shrieks of the young boys to whom I showed it
on the way out :-)
