Default Ivy ID

By sheer chance I found that ivy I was trying to ID!! We were asked out to
dinner with friends tonight and there it was in the entrance to the
restaurant that we went to with other friends two weeks ago. I hadn't even
thought of it being there. The leaf shown in the pic is one of the bigger
ones and is about 5.5" wide and just under 4.5" long. This does not include
the stalk. If anyone recognises it I would be most grateful to have the
name. I had a bit more time to look at it properly tonight! In the pic,
the paler bits look more yellow than they are in reality. They're actually
just a paler more grey/green.

The only pics I can Google for that seem to show its edges as being creamier
than 'mine'. As I say, it shows up paler in the pic than it does in
reality, so perhaps the Google images do the same.

Possibly, but having just been and looked at mine I now notice some of
the leaves are 5 lobed like fatsia and some 3 lobed like ivy. As an Ivy
yours is not one I recoginize, most of mine have much smaller leaves, but
I only grow a few as they are not hugely popular, shame really as when
the variegated sorts reach flowering size they look stunning especially
at this time of year.

I don't think this can be anything truly extraordinary because it's just
growing on the wall of a pub/restaurant. If we ever do ID it, everyone will
probably go "oh that old thing"! It's one of the prettiest I've ever seen
though, so I do want to track it down and get some.

Thanks, Emrys. If all else fails, I'll ask the pub if I can rip some ivy
off their walls. ;-)

The California Cross on the way to Modbury. Next time you're free in the
morning, we'll go over there for lunch. We've been a couple of times for
lunch and just recently for an absolutely excellent dinner. I've just
emailed them asking for the name of the ivy, if they know it. They're going
to think there are a lot of ivyphiles in this part of Devon. ;-)
