STARLINGS
The starlings have disappeared from our area (SW London) this autumn!
We usually host more starlings in the garden at this time of year than summer; but not this year. Has anybody noticed the same thing in other areas? Cheers Joe -- |

They must have flown South as I have not seen any for many years.. Peter (West Yorkshire) |

STARLINGS
Another theory - I beg to differ. Alternatively, winter flocks / influxes may not have arrived yet in London - i.e. not yet flown south, due to the mild weather. It's more than a month since they were gorging themselves on berries in Zuid Holland. I haven;t seen any starlings since then. We do have a few sparrows visiting our garden for the first time for years. Not so many here now, Lamncs UK, but a couple of dozen are left after the main flocks went off in November. They are really mixed up this year! Here we even have starlings attempting nesting in the usual places, mainly our guttering, dropping grass and straw all over the paths... Also the Sparrows appear to be searching the usual nest sites - I wonder if it's too mild here? |
