Default Is My Garden a Mess?

yes, needs weeding and the grass cutting

When cutting the grass don't take right back down to the ground as the
lawn will survive better without much water as we do have a water
shortage at the mo

water shortage will of course depend on where the OP lives.

here in the north west he/she would have no problem at all

the problem I seem to have is getting a chance to go and cut the grass
before the rain starts again. typically any nice days are when I am at work

It's been interesting watching the news coverage. There's a water
shortage in the SE, it's all over the news to the extent that friends in
US are convinced that the whole of Britain is near to desert conditions.
BBC morning news programme has scheduled a week's worth of items on how
to re-use grey water, how to grow plants with not much water, etc, etc.

A few years ago, there was a water shortage in the N, to the level of
standpipes in the streets. Yes, there was *some* news coverage. But a
week of news items on how to cope with the water shortage? Don't be
silly - nobody important lives in the N, so what's it matter if there's
a water shortage up there.

And in case you're thinking I'm in some far, far distant corner of the
UK - I'm about equidistant between the S Coast and John o'Groats - in
fact, I am probably as far from Edinburgh as I am from London - in other
words, in distance term, not very north at all.

We have written letters to the local paper and to the Parish Magazine
on just this matter. Both have remarked on possible drought
conditions, maybe not buying hanging baskets, planting drought
resistant plants and as we read those articles, the rain was hurling
itself down, just as it has done earlier this week! We pay over
£5,000 per year in water bills so we're not going to encourage
profligacy with the stuff but that writing is irresponsible and
London-centric, IMO. Locally, reservoirs were 2% more full at the end
of March than they were last year.

Nowt to do with this thread but I worked with a dear old 'Dalesman'
many years ago who told me he'd been down south (once) - to Doncaster.
