spring onions(try again)
My first planting of spring onions have grown to about 3 inches although
they are still very thin and spindly. Do I now water them well or sparingly ? I was also unsure of how to water them from seeds and onward and now I wish to resow, what is my best procedure? They seemed to take a very long time ( 4 weeks) to germinate , is this usual , and will they grow faster in warmer weather ? Obviously it is all new to me, so thanks for any hints. |

I have found best results are when you have planted the seeds just try and
keep them slightly damp. Once they are shooting above 2 inches high then water well but do not drown them. In mild spring conditions I usually find they take about 2 weeks to germinate and depending on Varity they usually look very thin for the 1st few weeks. Remember if you need to thin them out they are good to eat at 3 inches high. Stephen "miklol" wrote in message news:tmcfa.2$qn3.1742@newsfep2-gui... spring onions(try again)
I only grew spring onions last year for the first time and they were
excellent. They did take a long time to establish (can't remember the details), but they lasted forever. I harvested the last of them about 3 weeks ago and they tasted great. I sowed two varieties about 2 weeks ago under a mini polytunnel and they are just looking through. One is White Lisbon, can't remember the other. If it wasn'y for other things to grow I'd have the whole garden in them. Green Thai Curries, Salads, Cheese Sandwiches, Pasta......everything except my weetabix:-) Jonny miklol wrote in message ...
