Need a climber for a north facing wall, to live in a pot
The north wall of our house is ugly so I plan to hide it behind a few plants
:-) As title, can anyone recommend a potted climber for a north wall that gets very little sun. Preferably a fast growing one. TIA David |

Need a climber for a north facing wall, to live in a pot
David,
Nick Maclaren very kindly helped me out with a very similar question on this list a few days ago (March 8th). The only difference to the question was that our wall can get quite windswept. Here is what he wrote: "I can't say what will survive in pots, but all of the following thrive in such an aspect in my garden: Wisteria sinensis (I think) Akebia quinata Clematis alpina and armandii C. vitalba (yes, the native, though it hasn't flowered yet) Lonicera periclymenum (ditto) Holboellia latifolia (though it hasn't flowered yet) Rubus phoeniculasus (edible fruit, too!) In addition, I think that C. x jouiniana and orientalis would be fine, as they didn't get that much more light. And many other clematis, too, though not all." I hope you don'y mind Nick? I am just trying to return a favour! Good luck, Keith "DP" wrote in message ... But not all of those things would like a true north wall - they face north east in my garden. The key to north walls in the UK is whether they are "open" in the sense that most of the sky is visible. If so, many things will grow and flower. If not, then unvariegated ivy is the only think I know of that has a hope :-( Regards, Nick Maclaren, University of Cambridge Computing Service, New Museums Site, Pembroke Street, Cambridge CB2 3QH, England.
