Hi group..
Is there a site or someplace I can look up to see what the heck is growing in my yard? We live in Bastrop county, west of Bastrop. We noticed this terrible stink out in the back and thought there was something wrong with the septic. Went out there and found these really wierd, ugly and very stinky wild mushrooms..They grow up about 4" or so tall, the stem part is very thick, about an inch and is hollow. The hood part is very odd, instead of making an umbrella shape, it's very close to the mushroom and is an ugly dark green(shaped like a closed umbrella). They are usually covered with flying bugs..I am hoping to find something to get rid of them..There is no grass out there, just mulch and such..Was thinking of drenching the area with roundup..These are the stinkiest little things I have ever seen. I can have two of them in the yard and smell it all the way up on the patio... Thanks so much, John |

Try a sulphur based treatment, water it in then wait a week and treat with soil flora. Cheers! -- Om. "My mother never saw the irony in calling me a son-of-a-bitch." -Jack Nicholson |

Thanks so much..Stinky Damn things..We thought our septic went haywire..I have got to find something to kill them...Ours are specifically the "Ravenel's Stinkhorn" I wasn't gonna tell the familiarity to a specific male body part but the genus is "Phallus" or something like that :-) Thanks again for your help..Your always so helpful!!!! John My pleasure! :-) Glad I could help. Our local nursery sold me a sulphur soil treatment to fix a fungal root rot problem with my ivy. It stopped it in it's tracks and the ivy is recovering with the soil flora treatment. I'm not 100% sure that it would kill your problem, but try a local nursery and ask them for sure... There are also commercial fungicides but I'd not go with those unless there was no other choice. I personally prefer the less toxic routes to pest control. I'd read about stinkhorns in my research on wild mushrooms. G Cheers! -- Om. "My mother never saw the irony in calling me a son-of-a-bitch." -Jack Nicholson |
