Default Curling leaves on variety "Summer Snow"

Leaves are curling inward toward the middle from both sides on my "Summer
Snow" roses. This has happened before, and floral production has been
lousy. I'm determined to find out what it is this year and, more
importantly, take steps to correct it. Any thoughts, ideas or knowledge
here?

Thanks in advance.

Dillard,

The only time I have seen such inward curling of rose leaves is when
powdery mildew is present. Do you see this scourge on your rose? Here
is a picture to help with the identification:

There is apparently a viral disease that causes rose leaves to curl
downward, but what you are describing is an inward curl, so I doubt that
this is the same.

Here are a couple of web sites which might help you with both the
identification and eradication of what you are seeing on this rose:

Good luck.

Do the leaves get crispy.

Sometimes a late frost
does that to my leaves.

Are you spraying with a fungicide? My Summer Snow reacts this way if I spray.
I've found a light pruning and lots of fertilizer right after each flush keeps
the blackspot under control.

Julie,

Which fungicide has this effect on your Summer Snow? I am asking just
out of curiosity - have never heard of this phenomenon before. And is it
only SS that has this reaction to that fungicide? Also, does SS react
like this only to that fungicide?

Any of the fungicides that I have used have this effect on SS. I have probably
tried 7-8 different brands over the years. It took some time to fugure out why
the leaves were curled, but I noticed after a time that it only happened right
after I sprayed. The only rose that reacts like this is Summer Snow. The
leaves don't burn, it's as though it's thinking, "don't spray that stuff on me"
and curls up to protect itself.
It doesn't have a big BS problem, so I stopped spraying this one.

I sprayed yesterday with Funginex after noticing similar symptoms on some
other plants -- roses and crape myrtles. I'm thinking that what I'm facing
might indeed be powdery mildew, based on the responses here and a little
research of my own. I'll keep checking to see if there's any adverse
reaction on my Summer Snows. Thanks to all who responded.
