Default Elepant Ear and Photos

Hi, Ponders
Well the EE is at least starting to look like a plant now. I hope it
takes off and gives me some shade yet this summer.
Took a few shots and posted them for you to see of the plants and fish,
and please give me some feed back. Maybe you got some ideas to help these
small EE move to the larger stag faster.
Thanks and have a great day.

The EE looks like it has some new bigger leaves coming, so looks good. I
don't think it will take long to take off.

The WH looks a little anemic, you might want to check you pH. If that is
under 8.5 you might want to give it some time in a sunny tub with miracle
grow.... especially if the fish have been eating the roots.

Water Lilies, and this is for everyone to whom it applies, remove pads with
tears, they don't help the plant and can actually attract pests. Pinching
them off will keep your plant producing new pads more often and the
appearance of your lily will always look fresh. ~ jan

Don;t know where your located but once its nice and hot and humid
those EE will grow faster than a weed. Once they start and the
conditions are right they grow almost overnight. Not choosey about
soils either, or can be planted bareroot in a pond just fine.

We are in Colorado, between Denver and Colorado Springs, at 6300 ft.. As
you may be able to see on the photos these are just dropped in a pot and
some stones added on top and then put in the pond.
We do not get much for humidity here, but they are in full sun. I could
almost see some growth just from yesterday when I looked at them tonight.

Checked ph and it is way up, so added some ph reducer. Also checked the
Nitrate, Ammonia and nitrite they are all very low.
What causes the ph to rise? And how should I control it? I also put
the WH in a pail of water / miracle grow. How long should I leave them in
there?
Thanks for all the help !

I had no idea elephant ear could be used in the pond. I moved our small one
into our mini pond to get it going.

Any tips on planting depth?

I have our current one about 5 inches below the surface.

That will do.........I have them pop up in my pond from as deep as 2
feet or so. I threw one in a large QT of 30" depth just to keep it as
i was cleaning out a patch of plants, as someone wanted it. It was
only about 12 inches overall. They never sent postage for it and i
forgot about it, and its now way up out of the water and doing fine.

Cool. That means I can winter mine in there as well, as long as they are at
least a foot or so down.
(I only get maybe an inch or so of ice for just a few days at a time over
winter here.)

Till it starts to green up again (don't add any more miracle grow just the
one dose should do it). ~ jan
