Default Making Salad in my pond

OK, now I KNOW I'm a bit too obsessive about my ponds! I stopped into a
grocery store tonight (I hate grocery stores!) just to see if I could find
some watercress for my pond. Well, this is the second grocery store that
didn't have any. As I was turning my disappointed self away from the fresh
vegetables, some scallions caught my eye. Actually the ROOTS of the
scallion caught my eye, as they looked like they'd make great water plants
for filtration. I grabbed two big bunches of scallions, and then saw
something called Arugula that also had great roots. And then I saw
Horseradish root..... wow - what great roots! But I resisted and put that
back down.... it was really an ugly thing. On the way home I had to pass a
different grocery store, and couldn't resist checking, and they had
watercress! So when I got home and hubby came out to help me carry in the
bags, he saw all the different green veggies and said "wow, you're gonna
make one heck of a salad this weekend, huh?" I laughed and said "Yeah,
sure, right. Those aren't vegetables, those are pond plants!" He rolled
his eyes with that "oh my, she's really lost it this time" look and off he
went. So, has anyone else ever grown scallions or Arugula in their ponds?

Sue, you're a true PORG!! I haven't tried arugula in the pond yet, but
one planting of it in my garden bed six years ago keeps us supplied with
arugula even now; it reseeds very well. And if it gets where you don't
want it, it pulls out easily. Hmmmmmm, since my pond pigs apparently ate
the three bunches of watercress from my floating ring this week (okay,
okay I haven't feed them for a week), maybe I'll transplant some arugula
and chives ....

I have chives planted at the edge of
the frog bog, pretty wet feet there.
They do really well.

Sorry, my chives are by the kitchen door so that I
can reach out and snip them whenever I choose.

LOL
How do you all find enough electrical outlets/sources for all your ponds?
I'm only on my second pond, but am currently powering the pump via extension
cord until it stops raining long enough to do something more permanent. I
swear if we could easily do ponds without electricity, my husband would
never have to mow again.... I'd be digging non stop til our yard looked like
a piece of swiss cheese from an aerial view!

Yes, I know about taking over the yard ;-)
and the deck....... sigh.........
in fact last night I dreamed that we lived next to a dam and they opened a
spigot so I could flood my whole backyard. (this can't be a good dream... I
think it means I'm obsessed!)

Only one pond, the big one, has electricity.

The frog bog, the three containers under the aspen trees and the three
containers on the deck are all still ponds. Which means mosquito bits for
everyone. No fish in these ponds. Though I'll probably get some rosie reds for
a couple of them (hmmm, can I fit a stop in at PetsMart today??)

I love the frog bog, it is full of plants, the insect larvae and underwater
insects are so interesting and hopefully the adopted frogs' eggs will thrive.
I also have four containers full of eggs in the house to raise just in case.
(That probably answers the obsession question, doesn't it? ;-)

I have electricity to 3 areas. The first preform has just a
bubbler going in it. I don't think there are any fish in
there now - just frogs and plants. I put dunks in that one.
The butterfly puddle has dunks/no elec. The goldfish pond
and the koi pond have elec. Oh, make that 4, the kiddie pool
with the soon to be adopted koi has power also.
Oh, and remember how we removed all the koi from the
goldfish pond, well, apparently 2-1 year koi decided to take
a joy ride done the waterfall and have now taken up
residence in the goldfish pond. They'll stay there until I
go back into the pond. That will not be until the
temperature is warm once again.

Did you have a 10 feet long Koi in your dream too?

No, but now that you mention it, sucker fish came into the pond and I remember
thinking, in my dream, "I'll never get rid of these!"

(Been reading an article on Freud and I tell you
I'm more confused than ever!)
