B8 Policy on Removing Newsgroups
The RFD process can be used for removing groups as well as creating them.
The Board may vote to remove groups that are not being used. They have been systematically locating and removing dead groups from their canonical list for several months now. If during the RFD discussion people come forward who want to use the group and object to the removal, the group will not be removed. The Board also has a policy against removing unmoderated groups to replace them by moderated groups. In general, posters who claim that this is going to happen are trolling. -- Jayne |

I believe rec.ponds will still be used, unmoderated or not. They have been systematically locating and removing dead groups from their canonical list for several months now. If during the RFD discussion people come forward who want to use the group and object to the removal, the group will not be removed. I for one will object to the removal of it. :-) The Board also has a policy against removing unmoderated groups to replace them by moderated groups. In general, posters who claim that this is going to happen are trolling. Thank you for that information. -- KL.... Frugal ponding since 1995. You should add that, generally, the groups that are being removed are ones that have had no new posts for ten years or more. It's definitely not a matter of pulling groups out from under those who are using them. |

I would think if no one's posted to them for even 2 years they'd be considered dead. I can't foresee this group ever going that long without someone posting here if only to ask a question or two. -- KL.... Frugal ponding since 1995.
