sick/injured fish
I have a fish (5 yr & 9" subunkin) that got trapped in the skimmer, I
released it and it seemed to recover, but today I noticed that it is now growing a white fungus like material at the places where it was injured. Suggested treatment please. ANO |

Suggested treatment please. ================ I'll tell you what I would do and that is to remove the fish from the pond and put it in one of those cheap totes from Wal*Mart with about 10 gallons of pond water. Add an anti-fungal medication to the water. Watch the ammonia levels. You'll probably need to do a large partial water change before you add more medication every day. If it's weak from being trapped and already fungused it most likely will die. -- Koi-Lo.... Frugal ponding since 1995. Aquariums since 1952. Suggested treatment please. ANO The best treatment for fungus is to catch the fish and use Q-tip to dab malachite green directly on the fungus. It will be a two person job with a fish that size. Keeping the fish in the net, one person holds the fungused area above water while the other quickly dabs on the malachite green. Both will get drenched. ;-) Keep the malachite green clear of the eyes and gills. You've used enough malachite on if the fungus turns pale green. The fungus will fall off by the next day and often sooner. Sometimes it only takes one treatment, but sometimes the fungus grows back in places and you have to treat again in 48 hours or so. You might want to keep the fish in a kiddie pool or some sort of tub so that you can watch him better and catch him more easily if he requires a second or even a third treatment. -- Put the word aquaria in the subject to email me. this could be fungus, could be columnaris. treat pond with PP, up the salt to 0.9
pounds per 100 gallons, feed antibiotic food.
