Anyone have experience with friggin' heron's?
http://community.webshots.com/user/tapetrade This is the smallest of the 2 that have visited in the last couple of days. The larger one I swear is the size of a 10-year old kid. For reference the filter is 3' tall. The only ideas I have for it's origin (being Phoenix) would be lake pleasant, the desert botanical gardens, or the migratory bird sanctuary (most probable). The little windmill deals didn't scare'em , and you can see in the first couple pics that he/she is just stepping around the fishing line I setup. Anyone have any ideas about what to do? Thx |

Looks like a heron to me!
Heron tips: - put in an electric fido fence - netting over the pond. - a motion activated sprinkler - a brick flue at the bottom of the pond to give the fish a place to hide - Migratory Bird Act forbids lethal methods, heavy fines and jail time take away from pond time ;-) good luck! k30a |

The heron still tried to get the fish but were not able through the net. -- Bonnie NJ |

![]() We got a visit from the Great Blue Heron this year for the first time ever. Taller than me! He got the two biggest fish; the survivors are very fearful now. But, if they can survive the snake in the summertime, they can probably survive the bird in the winter! Dude or Dudeth,
I have great respect for your nerves. I am telling you right now, there is absolutely NO freaking way I will be taking a picture of a Heron hanging out at my pond looking at thousands of dollars worth of fish as a dinner menu. Hell NO! There would have been flailing of arms, screaming like a kid with pepper in his eyes, throwing every darn thing in sight, and kicking my dogs's ass for not attacking the go--amn Heron! And yes willing to go to jail and be bubba's girlfriend if I have to. But there is hell no way a Heron will be "chilling" at my pond! -- _______________________________________ "Architecture is the ultimate erotic 'object'." With raised walls like yours, netting over the pond is the best answer. It
sounds ugly but you lose sight of it soon enough and the Herons will soon give up. Jim and Sara Humphries, Victoria, BC "DesertPond" tapetrade@[No Spam]cox.net wrote in message ...
