white lump on shubunkin
Hi all
I have a shubunkin, and dont know whether this is coincidence but immediately after a visit from a heron, it developed a small round white lump about 2 - 3 millimetres across. Thought it may have been injured by the heron or in the mad dash for cover. This was 2 months ago, and the lump has neither gone bigger nor smaller. I have treated it for fungus and for parasites but these have made no diference. Any ideas, please, Barbara |

Hi Jerri
The lump looks solid, not fuzzy It is white, the same colour as the scales of the fish around it, which is round about its belly area. or it could actully be the colour of fish flesh. The size is probably less than 1/4 inch. The fish is eating well and looking otherwise healthy. hope you can help, and thanks for your reply, Barbara "Jerrispond" wrote in message ... Here is a possibility, since your fish may have hidden in an area it
normally wouldn't have, and come into contact with high concentations of nitrogen (poorly filtered area) ================== GAS BUBBLE DISEASE SYMPTOM: bubbles under the skin anywhere, but usually in the fins. Gas bubble disease happens when the water is full of supersaturated gases. The fish swim into the area where the water is saturated (usually with nitrogen) and takes the gas up across the gills. It is most often seen when water from deep wells is run directly into ponds or tanks. In the deep well, the water is colder (more gas is dissolved) and under pressure (more gas is dissolved). In tanks, the fine bubbles are seen on the tank walls and everything else and is obvious. In ponds, a small leak in big pumps that suck air into the stream of water an also create supersaturated conditions, as can swimming pool type sand filters. Inside, aging water with an airstone degasses well water. For ponds, spraying the water into the air or using degassing columns (running the water over lava rock in a PVC pipe). ================== Rex}{{{{o Hi Jerri The lump looks solid, not fuzzy It is white, the same colour as the scales of the fish around it, which is round about its belly area. or it could actully be the colour of fish flesh. Do nothing to the fish....it will go away on its own after a while. Every one I have known who had a fish with this had the fish recover with no treatment....It will not spread to the other fish....just ignore it Jerri http://www.fringeweb.com/Ponds/JerrisPond |

Hi
Thank you for your replies, I am more inclined to think it is the carp pox than the gas bubble - it doesnt look like a bubble, but I have swirled water around the more inaccesible areas of the pond just to make sure it is fresh. I had a shubunkin with the same thing and it eventually went away within a
few weeks. Don't know what it was, but he is fine now. Sara "Barbara Harrison" wrote in message ...
