Default LC buds won't open - what can I do?

Hi everyone!

For Christmas, I bought my future sister-in-law an Lc. Aqui - Finn. It has
lots of buds on it that are ready to burst, but they won't open. How can I
get them to bloom?

Thanks!

Sarah

Good to see you posting again, Sarah. The Lc. sounds very healthy, and if the
buds look ready to burst, I'd bet they require only a large dose of patience.

Thanks, Tom! I've been pretty busy, and it's nice to be back.

Patience is indeed the most likely answer, but -- in low humidity, the
flower segments can sometimes get "stuck." We've been having a spell of
this ... imagine, humidity as low as 37% in So. Fla.! I've had to help a few
vanda flowers open, during the last couple of weeks.

If the buds look to be just "slow," leave them alone and exercise that
patience. But if there are gaps around the segments, that show the flowers
are truly trying to open and might be stuck together, then (1) working in
the morning (2) mist them lightly with a little water and then (3) VERY
GENTLY press around the bud. Usually this will pop them apart and let them
open.
