I have 2 orchid plants that were doing great when I bought them last season
but they will not put out any flower stalks this season. The plants are otherwise healthy with good root growth and good leaves. Any suggestions ? |

Mohammed,
Do you happen to know what type of orchid plants these are? Did you happen to keep the tags identifying them? Orchids are an exceedingly diverse flowering plant family, and different genera of orchids have different needs. If you do not know the genus of your orchids (for example: Phal, Cattleya, Paph, Dendrobium, Cymbidium, Oncidium -- to name just a few of the most common ones), then maybe you can take a digital photo of your orchids to help us identify them. Do not post the photo to rec.gardens.orchids, since this is not a binary newsgroup. Instead you can share the photo with us in either of these ways: 1. Post the photo to alt.binaries.pictures.orchids -- if your server carries this newsgroup 2. Post the photo to a Web site, and provide us a link to the Web site here at rec.gardens.orchids 3. Go to http://www.free-webhosts.com/free-im...ing.php?sort=2 and upload your photo to one of these free hosting sites and then send us a link It is likely that someone here will be able to make an educated guess as to the genus of your orchids based on the photo of the plants. Only once the genus of the orchids is established, can anyone here give you better advice on what you should be doing to get the plants to reflower. After a bit of Web searching I located the following site that hopefully can
help you identify your orchid. http://www.orchidlady.com/encycloped...wth_types.html Best, Joanna "J Fortuna" wrote in message ... Hi, Mohammed,
I would suggest increasing the amount of light just a little for them. Then if they are phals, Bob Gordon once said to deprive and stress them a bit. .. . . The #1 reason why a healthy mature orchid fails to flower is insufficient
light. However, certain orchids, partciularly phals, also require a diurnal temp change; others require a "rest period" in which they are not watered or fertilized, in order to set buds. So, without knowing what kind of orchid you have, I cannot provide any specific advice. -- Kenni Judd Juno Beach Orchids http://www.jborchids.com "MOHAMMED SHAIKH" wrote in message ...
