Default Andy Easton Leaves AOS

Let's try that link again. If it doesn't come through correctly this time,
go to the partial link and look for a column by Thom Smith. Tried to cut
and paste it but couldn't.

The news reader client software seems to want to make long links
unusable by word-wraping them. I use www.tinylink.com to overcome
that difficulty.

Here's what your link looks like after being run through tinylink.com:

Orchid society expert follows his nose south

By Thom Smith, Palm Beach Post Staff Columnist
Wednesday, July 16, 2003

The help-wanted sign is out in Delray Beach at the American
Orchid Society, but this job will be a tough one to fill. Andy
Easton, the society's director of education and orchid
operations, has left to become vice president of life science at
KB Orchids in Homestead, the largest grower in the business.

"Andy will be heading KB's research area, as well as developing
and sourcing new orchid lines," society executive director Lee
Cooke said. "I'm sad to lose a talent of Andy's magnitude, but
I'm happy for him. The extremely good news is that Andy's not
closing the book on the AOS."

The New Zealand-born Easton, who holds a master's degree in
botany and plant pathology from Colorado State University, will
continue as a consultant to the AOS and will contribute to
Orchids, the society's magazine. He also can claim a moment in
the movie Adaptation, which was in fact an adaptation of a South
Florida-based book, The Orchid Thief by Susan Orlean, and
resulted in a supporting actor Oscar for Chris Cooper.

The burly, affable Easton was paid $100 for his stint as an
extra; he'll do much better with KB Orchids.

A replacement won't be easy to find. "Andy has been a tremendous
asset to the society and to me these past three years," Cooke
said. "His are, indeed (figuratively and literally), big shoes to
fill."
end of clipping.....................................

I had heard this at the last OS meeting. There are going to be
several openings after this. I have not heard who is doing what
to fill the jobs.
