Orchid Pictures Reference Database Update
The orchid picture reference database of the London (Ontario) Orchid
Society has had a major update. This database contains pointers to orchid pictures in printed documents (books, catalogues, magazines, etc.) It now contains 95,451 pointers to all the pictures in 977 documents. These documents include most of the popular orchid books, all of the AOS Bulletin/Orchids magazines from 1970 to the present and all of the AOS Awards Quarterly magazines up to the end of 2002 as well as general plant and garden books and many catalogues and popular magazines. If you are looking for a picture of a particular orchid that you cannot find directly on the net or you are looking for more than just the picture (i.e. award statistics, culture information, geographical growing location, etc.) then look in the database at http://los.lon.imag.net/picref.asp . The picture will often be part of a descriptive article about that orchid. Using all or part of the orchid name you will get a list of the plant name(s) containing your search string, the name of the book or document, the page number, as well as whether the picture is a photograph or drawing and whether it is in colour or black and white. A complete list of the 977 documents indexed can be found at: http://los.lon.imag.net/lossrce.asp Enjoy. |

"Wendy" wrote Thank you ever so much for all this wonderful information. Are you the Bob Betts whoes name is on some of my orchid labels? No. It is just a coincidence but a nice one since it becomes a great conversation starter when I am introduced at orchid shows and meetings. The orchid was named after another Bob Betts who ran an orchid nursery in California many years ago. I believe he passed away in the mid 1970's. We may be related if I were to look back far enough. If we are, it is not a close enough relation for me to be aware of it. |
