Dear Friends,
Allow a little bit of humor after spending the last few days being hammered by angry customers who oppose name changes completely outside my control. Do you suffer from Rhynaelionitis (Rln.)? That is one of the new genera = Laelia x Rhybcholaelia x Sophronitis There are now many new genera, including some with funny abbreviations. For example, the new genus Peetersara = Broughtonia x Cattleya x Rhyncholaelia x Sophronitis. It is named for a Belgian nurseryman, Augustin Andre Peeters, who died in 1920. Mr. Peeters may be worthy of the honor, but probably would not approve of the abbreviation assigned to him: "Pee." This resulted in some funny hybrid names such as Pee. Vietnam Cocktail. With a name like that, who wouldn't buy one? Here's another one: "Shy." It stands for Sophroprosleya = Cattleya x Prosthechea x Sophronitis. As a result there is now an orchid named Shy. Pecochan's Smile. For those of you who are hybridizers out there, may I propose some new names? How about Pee. Like a Horse? Or perhaps Shy. But not Frigid. How about Try. Harder? Best wishes, Alex |

Thanks for the chuckles, Alex! We've been thinking about how maddening this
must be for you, especially. The whole thing is going to make it harder to talk to each other, isn't it? My memory is not good enough to be able to distinguish between all the new lingo and the old. It will be interesting to see how widely these changes are accepted here in the States. Diana "Alex Maximiano" wrote in message ... Well I sorta like that... There's a noir story in there somewhere....
"Hot. It was bloody hot" Carruthers thought, lighting a cigarette. "Damn tropics." The air didn't move despite of the thudding ceiling fans. The bargirl entered from behind a bead curtain, a chongsam wrapped her every curve, eyes silently sizing him up. She brought his beverage, moisture beading on the tall slim glass. "Thanks, baby." Carruthers said, tossing a few coins on the tray which earned him a shy Pecochan's smile. A promise of things to come? Carruther's turned the possibility over in his mind like a semiprecious stone, then discarded it. "Not bloody likely." He remembered his last date with a bar girl. Two weeks later the inability to Pee. Vietnam Cocktail's always ended with recriminations and a dripping case of Rhynaelionitis K Barrett "Alex Maximiano" wrote in message ... Yeah, something like that! And in the westerns the black hats were "the

Which one? I didn't see the listing for the new Cattleya alliance hybrid

The latest list isn't there yet, but to find the page where the lists are
posted go to the main orchid registrar's page (where you can also find the links for searching) and click on "List of New Orchid Hybrids". The main page is at: http://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/registration_orchids.asp -danny |
