OK....I'm playing the name that orchid game again. The taxonomists have
been messing around to confuse things again! I have a great plant in bloom from our friends at Oak Hill Gardens. It was part of the 10 for $50 deal last summer. The label is Catleytonia Maui Maid x Blc. Mahina Yahiro. On the first bloom it has 12 flowers about the size of a 50 cents piece. Together they look like the head of flowers on a hydrangea. STUNNING! So I when to the RHS to see if it was named. Well, it appears that something has been renamed and the BLC Mahina Yahiro is now Rhynchosophrocattleya Mahina Yahiro. When you cross this with a Cattleytonia the RHS seems to call it Peetersara. When I go to other sites it appears people are calling this Otaara. Anyone know what to call it? Thanks, Gene |

If it's for personal tracking, a label that you'll remember, possibly pointing to a tracking database with all the history on it. If it's going to eventually be divided and sold, list it under all of the different names so that you increase your odds of someone looking for it specifically being able to find it. -- Chris Dukes elfick willg: you can't use dell to beat people, it wouldn't stand up to the strain... much like attacking a tank with a wiffle bat |

I'd call it an Otaara. Its a starting point for serious research in case
anyone ever wants to do it (like at a show or for an award) You and I may know it eventually as a Petersara, but right now I think more people are familiar with Otaara. The Blc parent is indeed stunning, so I'm happy its offspring is as nice. Grand parent is Donna Kimura, a plant I've lusted after for a while. A friend just divided hers and I intend on whining until she gives me the piece. I wonder if we could make some money by registering and auctioning orchid genera the same way people register domain names then auction them off to the highest bidder. I understand sex.com sold for 12 million bucks. K Barrett "Gene Schurg" wrote in message news:tKori.6378$Q85.77@trndny02... OK....I'm playing the name that orchid game again.
