Anoles/Geckos in the Greenhouse - Follow Up
Back in November I posted that I released 4 Anoles (little green lizards)
into my greenhouse. They cost about $6 each at the local PETCO. Now, 3 months later I see 3 of them regularly. Since they all look the same I can't say that its the same three I am seeing or whether it's any 3 of the 4. They scurry about when I am watering and have become very comfortable in their large glass house. They are eating something? Occassionally I find evidence on one of the leaves where they left a deposit. No big deal since it washes off when I water. Last year I had many sow bugs (roly polys) that I believe was eating young roots. I haven't seen a sow bug in months this winter. There are a few fungus gnats that seem to come in with the spring bulbs I'm forcing. They don't seem to be lasting long. The only downside is that once in a while they do startle me when I reach for a plant and something jumps out and on to another plant. They have become quite wild and I have a difficult time catching them. I just posted this follow up so any of you who may be considering adding a little movement to your collection can know this is a fun cheap way to add to the fun. Good Growing, Gene |

Good Growing, Gene So your not providing any food for them. Really Gene - You had us convinced you kept a cleaner glasshouse than that. g Are you sure you can count correctly? What happened to the 4th? Did you find a 'proof'? No cats around to terrorize these little guys? Do you provide water or more heat or anything to keep them going? As you can tell - I have never lived in Gecko territory. Never lived around such creatures. It does sound like fun. SuE http://orchids.legolas.org/gallery/albums.php |

Would you consider putting them in an enclosed area like
my sun room, or would there be too much doo-doo? Well, I have more of a population of geckos than Gene does grin, and, even with the 15-100 of the things around my house (and some inside it!), their 'deposits' aren't much of a problem. They have the run of the house if they want it (Just *try* to keep a gecko in one room!) and I've only ever found gecko manure in one area really. So, unless you're a germophobe and the thought of anything leaving deposits in your house totally grosses you out, I wouldn't think that a gecko would be too much to handle. Tracey |

Six bucks a piece!?!?!?! I think I've found a business for myself. Of course, local trade won't be much, but I guess I could ship them out. I have at least two types of lizards here. The regular 'geckos' and the more traditional types of garden lizards. There are a horde of them living in the area all of my orchids are, I have a couple that have set up house in some potted plants and we have at least 3 albino geckos that live in the house. I love the little guys, even though when you're walking through the yard, it sounds more like a herd of elephants rather than a bunch of lizards scurrying through the brush. One thing I like is to watch the line of lizards that climb up on the rock walls in the garden and then jump off to catch higher flying insects. Tracey |

Gene,
You're right... I forgot to add the flava beans as a side dish. HanniMickbal |
