Default Advice for a new lawn!?

Hello

I have just registered today!

Here goes for my first thread.

I have a long narrow )ish) garden 70m long x 8m wide.

What lawn I have (over half of the garden) is full of weeds and would need a lot of love and attention if I was to make it a great lawn. The other half of the garden that doesn't have any lawn is waist high in weeds.

I have got quotes in for re-turfing the lot however I think the lawn company said they would rotivate the whole lot, level it and turf it.

Is rotivating a good idea?
Should I not kill the weeds first with something like roundup wait for them to die before rotivating?

The last thing I what is to have 10 times the amount of weeds coming up through my new lawn.

Can anyone please give me some advice on this?

Thanks

Easty
