Help to identify plants please
Hello,
We live in Ottawa Canada and we have a couple plants in our yard that my wife feels are flowers, while I think that they are simply good looking weeds :-) If anyone could help identify them we would appreciate it very much. Hopefully the links below will provide images. http://jdmst.freewebspace.com/plant1.jpg http://jdmst.freewebspace.com/garden1.jpg Thanks, John |

Highly invasive plant that was introduced as ground cover originally because it covers ground -- FAST. Whether it is a weed or not depends on whether you like it or not. Personally, I've spent many hours this spring removing it from herb beds and I consider it a weed but it can sure look pretty if there's nothing else there. http://ipm.ppws.vt.edu/scott/weed_id/lamam.htm |

I don't think it's the cultivated form. http://jdmst.freewebspace.com/garden1.jpg If I saw that in the UK I would identify it as Glechoma hederacea (ground ivy) Thanks, John -- Stewart Robert Hinsley |

It was sort of hanging around the edges of my tired mind but I couldn't quite place it. http://jdmst.freewebspace.com/garden1.jpg If I saw that in the UK I would identify it as Glechoma hederacea (ground ivy) It's Lamium amplexicaule here in the States but still a ground ivy. |

Now that it's been mentioned I'd think that I'd agree with Lamium amplexicaule. That's absent, or at best scarce, in my part of the UK, so I don't immediately recognise it. -- Stewart Robert Hinsley |

What a few metric tons of it? I'll pay postage. |

I grow them as a flower, but they self seed all over the place and can take on weed status very quickly. Just pull any you don't want! The second I have growing in my flower beds too (Hamilton, ON). I consider it a weed and is one I will never be rid of :-( It is incredibly invasive. Jacqui |
