You can expect this tree to be over 20' tall and 15' wide in just three years. It can grow to over 70' tall. The Imperial Carolina poplar tolerates a wide variety of soil types and conditions, growing very well on somewhat sandy soils. The tree is a tall, fast-growing tree shaped somewhat like a pyramid. It is a hybrid that reaches 50-80 feet in height. Its yellow-gray bark becomes ridged toward the base of the tree. The wide, smooth leaves are rounded at the base. Because Imperial is a male hybrid, it does not produce the cottony seed common to most poplar trees.
