I have a 15 gallon tank with a 24" x 12" Clearseal hood. There appears to be
sufficient space for one tube, clipped to the vertical part of the inside back of the hood. I have some other parts to buy, and to take advantage of ther free delivery, will be buying it all from one site. I would like to have some live plants in the tank, which is why I'm crossposting to r.a.f.p, and (at least for the moment) do not intend to have a CO2 system with the setup. The site in question is http://www.aquatics-online.co.uk/aca...hting_11.html, or http://tinyurl.com/ddbe. I will need a lighting controller and tube(s) to match. 18" long for a 24" hood? What wattage? Will 15W be sufficient? Will a reflector make much of a difference? Tube clips? Assuming these come with the controller. Will be placing my order in the next few days, so any advice appreciated. Thanks, Marcus |

Assuming these come with the controller. Hi, I've got a 24" tank, a Juwel Rekord 70. I was told the most I could use on it was 15W, so that's what I chose. Can't remember which tube, sorry - it was one with a slightly purply light if that helps. The Rekord hood has an inbuilt reflector. After a while to get settled, my plants have gone nuts in there. I used to fertilize while they were new plants, but never bother any more. I've never used CO2 or anything fancy like that! I am now giving my plant clippings away. If you just want some plants in your tank, and you're willing to try a bit of trial and error to see which ones do well along the way, I'd say you'll be fine, but do get the reflector unless the inside of the hood is white or metallic anyway. If you want specific plants or something then you might need to take specialist advice, but in general I think you'll be fine. If you'd like to see how the plants have grown, see http://www.gorge.org/fish/2003-08-02/juwel.jpg -- Flash Wilson http://www.gorge.org -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- I am a hostage to my .inbox. |

All the tubes that would fit in a 24" hood from that site are 18" long and 15W each. So, I'm considering a 15W lighting controller, but not sure of the brand yet, from http://www.aquatics-online.co.uk/aca...nits_8 6.html or http://tinyurl.com/iubx. Would like some pointers here. Is it worth going for the Arcadia with waterproof end-caps? Tubes present more of a problem. Do I just get any 15W 18" tube? I want it to last for a while. Again would like a recommendation, as have no idea. Should I get an Arcadia T5 tube? There are loads to choose from on this site. http://www.aquatics-online.co.uk/aca...ghting_11.html or http://tinyurl.com/ddbe. Cost isn't really an issue, as there's not much price difference. Many thanks, Marcus |
