Anchoring Driftwood
I have a very nice piece of driftwood that is about 3 feet long and about 8
inches in diameter but the darned thing won't stay submerged. It's been in a big bin with the water changed daily for about 3 weeks and has now been in my tank for 1 week But it still floats without something weighing it down. How long until it will sink naturally? Or should I just attach the thing to some slate or tile? If I attach it to tile what type of screws should be used? |

How long until it will sink naturally? Quite a while sometimes. Get a piece of slate, drill it and stick a STAINLESS STEEL screw in there to attach it. -- Richard Sexton | Mercedes Parts: http://parts.mbz.org http://www.mbz.org Mailing lists: http://lists.mbz.org W108, W126 Mercedes Classifieds: http://ads.mbz.org ** new -- Watch list: http://watches.list.mbz.org |

I would also boil the wood for a couple of hours, this allows water to
thouroughly saturate the wood (also takes out some of the tanins) and it will sink much easier... "Empty" wrote in message ... (Richard J. You can also drill the screw holes, fill them with aquarium silicone, and use plastic screws. Just FY if metal in your tank gives you the willies. ~Empty -- "I'm constantly forgetting my own phone number. Quite simply, it's because I never call myself. (I used to, but I was never home. I just gave up after a while. I figure if I want to talk to me, I'll just have to do it in person.)" -Walker |
