I'm working on my first A. palmatum airlayer. I'm wondering exactly how
deep to cut. Using a grafting knife, I was able to "peel" the bark and cambium layer in one clean, thin piece, leaving smooth, dry white below without a trace of green. But I haven't cut as deeply as I have sometimes seen in photos, where it looks like the cut is made almost down to heartwood. It is my understanding that you cannot cut through ALL layers, so...How deep should I cut? Thanks! |
