Is there any care I could give to my future yamadori while it still on the
field? Nithogen? Water?



This is a thuya occidentalis, 70 Y/O 9" trunk, 3 feets tall. I first cut all
the dead branches and water it to clean from the dust. I will wait until
November until take it.

I wouldn't give it nitrogen because that will stimulate new growth. The
accepted procedure is to cut a trench around the tree, out as far as you think you
can handle the root ball. On a plant this old and large three feet would be
good, but two feet is more realistic. Dig down and under the plant as much as
possible but don't cut the tap root. Fill the trench with leaf mold or spaghnum
moss to promote root growth close to the tree
Ideally you do this in the early spring and take the plant in the fall or
next spring.
