I planted mine late, but in a conservatory - and, even then, they
didn't grow for ages because of the vile weather. They are best
planted indoors, and put out only in late May, but not everyone
has somewhere light to grow them.


I might try the same system I use with sweet peas. Sow in polystyrene
cups, put the cups in freezer bags, and hang them on a south facing
wall. With the bag handles tied at the top, they don't need watering
till the spring
